What today means for your chart

The panchang is the same for everyone; what it means for you depends on your Moon sign and running dasha. Today's rashifal · Get your free kundli

What the panchang is

A panchang has five limbs: tithi (the lunar day), vara (the weekday), nakshatra (the Moon's star), yoga and karana. A tithi is the time the Moon takes to gain 12° on the Sun, so a lunar month has 30 of them; the nakshatra comes from the Moon's position, the yoga from the Sun and Moon added together.

The panchang is reckoned from sunrise, so every city's is slightly different: a tithi ends at the same instant everywhere, but sunrise, Rahu kaal and the muhurtas move with the city.

Every value here is computed with the Swiss Ephemeris and the Lahiri ayanamsa, not estimated.

Panchang for other cities

Times are local to Kathmandu. Sunrise is the Sun's upper limb with refraction; tithi and karana come from the Moon's distance from the Sun, nakshatra and yoga from the Lahiri sidereal zodiac. Local custom can keep a fast or festival on the next day. How we compute
