Lal Kitab: every planet in every house, and its simple remedies
Lal Kitab reads a chart like a household: every planet lives in someone's house, and is a friend to some and a rival to others. Here are all nine planets in all twelve houses, read in our own words, with remedies that are cheap and harmless.
What Lal Kitab is
Lal Kitab, "the red book", is an Urdu work credited to Pandit Roop Chand Joshi and published in five volumes between 1939 and 1952. It blends Vedic astrology with palmistry, and it is known for its plain language and its household remedies.
Two things set it apart. First, it sets the signs aside and reads the twelve houses in a fixed order: the lagna is the 1st house, and the 1st house is read as Aries, the Kalpurush order. Second, every planet has a permanent house (pakka ghar) and is a friend to some planets and a rival to others. Whose house a planet is a guest in decides much of what it does.
How the remedies are done
- Do one remedy at a time, for 43 days in a row. If a day is missed, start again.
- Do it in daylight, between sunrise and sunset.
- Do it yourself. Tradition allows a blood relative to do it on your behalf.
- The remedies are cheap and domestic: grain, milk, jaggery, a copper coin, flowing water, food for animals. Gemstones and paid rituals are not needed.
- Conduct is the first remedy: lies, intoxicants and disrespect for elders undo any upay.
